PRESENTATIONS

NYSERDA’s Buildings of Excellence (BOE) Early Design Support Program – Kristin Graham, Acting Team Lead, & Vera Voropaeva, Early Design Support Project Manager, NYSERDA
The NYSERDA team will introduce the Early Design Support BOE program and discuss how it’s fostering innovation in clean, resilient multifamily buildings across New York State. An overview of project scale and range will be demonstrated thought selected case study examples, including Passive House-certified and high-performance projects. NYSERDA will also share insights on the program’s evolution and outline future opportunities for involvement.

The Bank Lofts – Presented by Juhee Lee-Hartford, Founding & Managing Principal, CEO, River Architects
The Bank Lofts is a 3-story, 14,800 gross sf Passive building retrofit of a circa-1882 former First National Bank building in Richfield Springs, New York. It is both NYSERDA BOE Early Design Support and CNCED awardee. The project received Phius CORE REVIVE 2021 Design certification and New York State Historic Preservation Office (SPHO) approvals. The construction is almost complete, and we will be going through the final certification process this fall.

This development provides much needed quality housing while preserving the historic fabric of the community for the long-term. Our client, Dooalot, LLC, aspires to bring economic resurgence to the neighborhood while accomplishing healthy, sustainable, and fossil-fuel-free spaces for their tenants.

This renovation will provide 9 apartments including an ADA unit on the ground floor and approximately 2,100 sf commercial space. There will be off-street parking with a solar panel canopy and 4 EV charging stations.

1818 Fifth Ave – Presented by Chris Straile, Market Manager, Sustainable Comfort, Inc.
1818 Fifth Avenue will be a new 55,000 square foot, four-story market-rate multifamily building that replaces a vacant suburban-style bank branch to thoughtfully reconstruct the pre-urban renewal streetscape along 5th Avenue in Troy’s historic, walkable downtown. It will provide 70 micro, studio and one-bedroom apartments with robust communal amenities including coworking space, media lounge and indoor bicycle storage.

1818 Fifth Avenue will utilize fully electrified systems such as air-source heat pumps for space conditioning and energy recovery ventilation combined with an air-tight building envelope and smart building controls. By increasing efficiency and offsetting energy use with a planned rooftop solar PV array, no fossil fuels will be used in building operations. Superior acoustic performance, air quality and disease resistance, beneficial by-products of passive house construction, ensure resident comfort despite the concentrated floor plans and urban environs.

CreekView – Presented by James Moriary, Vice President, Sustainable Comfort, Inc.
CreekView Apartments Phase II is the continuation of the development of a high-performance passive house community in Canandaigua. Building upon the efforts of the PHIUS+ 2015 Phase I, CreekView Phase II will reach to Net-Zero energy, continuing to drive the cost effectiveness of high-performance building.

CreekView Phase II consists of 72 apartments in 9 buildings which will be Phius Certified, achieving the NYSERDA New Construction – Housing Tier 4 criteria with triple pane windows, energy recovery ventilation, highly insulated slab; walls; and roof, as well as solar PV. The buildings also intend to utilize all electric systems including ground source heat pumps tied to VRF systems for heating, cooling, plus a ground source water to water heat pump for hot water heating. The project will utilize roof mounted solar PV to offset the usage of each building to achieve as near Net-Zero energy as possible.
